Political test comparison

12 Axes vs Political Compass

The main difference is resolution. A Political Compass-style result gives you a compact position on two broad dimensions. A 12 Axes test keeps twelve topics separate so disagreements that would otherwise cancel out remain visible. Neither format is a scientific diagnosis, and neither should tell you how to vote.

What a two-axis compass shows well

A compact chart is easy to understand and compare. It can start a useful conversation about economic preferences and personal or state authority without requiring a long explanation. That simplicity is also its trade-off: people with the same coordinates may disagree on immigration, ecology, international relations, social change, or how power should be distributed.

What twelve axes add

My12Axes reports each dimension independently. A person can favor market allocation while supporting a strong welfare floor, or prefer personal liberty while also favoring centralized administration. Those combinations are easier to see when separate topics are not averaged into one coordinate. Read the full list on the 12 axes explained page.

Which test should you take?

Choose a two-axis compass when you want a quick, familiar overview. Choose a 12 axes questionnaire when you want to inspect where your views split across more subjects. Taking both can be useful, but do not treat a disagreement between the results as an error: the formats ask different questions and summarize them differently.

Can the results be converted?

No reliable one-to-one conversion exists. Two coordinates cannot reconstruct twelve independent measurements, and similarly a dozen scores can be collapsed in several different ways. If you take both, compare the underlying questions and definitions instead of trying to match the graphics exactly.

Important limits

Both formats simplify political beliefs. Results depend on wording, scoring choices, context, and how you understand each statement. My12Axes is an independent self-exploration tool, not a validated diagnosis, voting guide, or claim that political thought has exactly twelve natural dimensions. Our methodology explains how the current questionnaire is scored.

Frequently asked questions

Is 12 Axes the same as Political Compass?

No. They are different ways to summarize political answers. One commonly uses two coordinates; My12Axes reports twelve independent scores.

Which political test is more detailed?

The twelve-axis format preserves more distinctions, but extra detail is not the same as scientific accuracy. It is useful when your goal is to inspect a pattern rather than obtain one compact label.

Can I convert one result into the other?

Not reliably. Take both tests if you want to compare them, then look at the wording and dimensions behind each result.
